Unity Holistic Healing Center: A service of Unity of Charlottesville
Accunect: When stress occurs the body becomes less efficient at healing itself. This causes illness and disease on all levels – mind, body and spirit. As the body becomes aware of areas of imbalance/stress in areas that need to be addressed, it naturally redirects resources to those areas. This could be at the physical, emotional, mental and environmental levels (including a blockage in the acupuncture meridian system). The practitioner uses a gentle muscle-checking technique to facilitate the body’s internal awareness to redirect its focus on these areas and facilitate the body’s return to balance on all levels of the mind, body and spirit of an individual. This allows the body’s systems to move from fight or flight (stress) mode to parasympathetic (healing) mode. There is a return to normal balance and wellness when and where it is ready to do so…thus improving its function on all levels. Michelle Law
Body Talk System: BodyTalk is an astonishingly simple and effective holistic therapy that allows the body’s energy systems to be re-synchronized so they can operate as nature intended. Each system, cell, and atom is in constant communication with each other at all times. Through exposure to the stresses of day-to-day life, however, these lines of communication can become compromised or disconnected, which then leads to a decline in physical, emotional and/or mental well-being. Reconnecting these lines of communication enables the body’s internal mechanisms to function at optimal levels, thus repairing and preventing disease while rapidly accelerating the healing process. In this way, BodyTalk stimulates the body’s innate ability to balance and heal itself on all levels. BodyTalk can be used as a standalone system to treat many chronic and acute health problems, or can be seamlessly integrated with any healthcare regimen to increase its overall effectiveness. BodyTalk’s major assets are its simplicity, safety and the speed of results. Michelle Law
Chakra/Meridian Balancing & Clearing: This gentle hands-on energy healing technique balances and clears your chakras and energy meridians, allowing your life essence to flow more freely. Our energetic bodies can become out of balance with restricted or blocked energy flow, resulting in physical, mental, and/or emotional issues. By gently clearing the energy blocks, your body functions more efficiently so you feel balanced and grounded with more physical energy, mental clarity, and emotional peace. Joan Mauté, LRMT, LMT, CPT; Sharon H. Taylor, M.Ed.
Comprehensive Energy Psychology: Energy psychology (EP) is a collection of mind-body approaches for understanding and improving human functioning. EP focuses on the relationship between thoughts, emotions, sensations, and behaviors, and known bioenergy systems (such as meridians, chakras and the bio field).
The use of Energy Psychology has resulted in the development of associated methods and models to treat psychological and emotional problems, facilitate health and wellbeing, and improve performance. These models and methods integrate treatment for the meridian system (tapping), the chakra system (chakra balancing) and the bio field system. Gentle muscle testing is used to access the innate wisdom of the body to assist in the holistic healing process. Energy psychology can help you:
- reduce anxiety and depression
- heal trauma, including post-traumatic stress
- overcome limiting beliefs (about relationships, finances, etc.)
- heal addictions
- enhance performance
- increase or reinforce healthy lifestyle habits
- connect with the wisdom of the body and integrate mind-body-spirit healing.
Sharon H. Taylor, M.Ed.
Crystal Healing Lights: Crystal light healing consists of seven Brazilian vogel cut guartz crystals suspended above the body’s seven energy centers. Each crystal has been cut to pulsate at a specific frequency and color. The process envelopes you in healing energies and allows for regeneration, alignment and balancing of your energy field and aids in the process of healing body, mind and spirit. Debbie Wright, RN
Eden Energy Medicine is the work of contemporary teacher and healer, Donna Eden, and embraces the ancient wisdom of disciplines such as acupuncture, yoga, Qi Gong, and more. Eden Energy Medicine techniques harmonize the body’s subtle energies, which support health, vitality, and positive emotions. It is also a wonderful complement to other medical and self-care approaches. Each Eden Energy Medicine session is personalized for the individual client, and may include balancing one or more of nine energy systems such as the aura, chakras, meridians, Radiant Circuits, and the Five Elements. An Eden Energy Session includes: discussing your areas of concern; assessing your energetic states using non-invasive methods; attending to the energies that need to be balanced; and learning self-care techniques you can use to maintain the positive change as well as clear, balance and direct the energies of your own body. Denise Furgason, EEM-CP; Ellen Selover. EEM-CLP, CHt
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also known as “Tapping”, quickly and effectively releases old negative programming, patterning, and the self-limiting beliefs that are holding you back and replaces them with new positive energy. This highly effective technique allows you to access your subconscious mind through tapping on acupressure points while being guided to focus on a problem or goal. It helps you release inner conflicts and balance your energy system. EFT has helped people:
- Find freedom from stress and painful emotions
- Transform negative patterns and limiting beliefs into positive ones
- Release food cravings and quit smoking
- Improve relationships
- Heal from trauma

Embodyment® Yoga Therapy: Benefits include: deep relaxation; reduced stress; ease in one’s body; and, a simultaneous sense of being grounded and uplifted. One session of Embodyment® therapy is said to have the equivalent effect of 6 yoga classes. The therapy itself is based on the theory that consciousness leads to healing and transformation. Embodyment® yoga therapy is a one-on-one body-work modality in which the client rests in Shavasana, i.e. yoga’s relaxation pose, while the therapist brings her hands-on attention to a particular area of the client’s body. A session normally lasts about 50 minutes. The changes are dramatic. Come experience it for yourself. You’ll be glad you did! Tahira Haroon
Essential Oils: Young Living Essential Oils are pure, therapeutic grade oils that can be used in a variety of ways to support your health and well being. Essential oils are vibrational remedies and each carries their own frequency. They have the ability to raise your vibration and enhance your health and well being on all levels, body, mind, and spirit. Our practitioners offer the use of essential oils during healing sessions (Raindrop Technique) and also instruction on how to use the oils in your home to clear the energy, support your health, and elevate your sense of peace and well being. Pamela Wolfe; Tahira Haroon; Sharon H. Taylor, M.Ed.

Holy Fire® II Karuna Reiki®: Reiki has become the most widely known and sought after energy healing modality in the world today. The original Reiki energy has always been meant to evolve and in the last few years the Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki energies have emerged as higher frequency manifestations of this natural evolution. These energies are more powerful, yet gentler and produce positive changes in your well-being much faster and with less effort, as well as facilitating profoundly positive shifts in your own awareness and evolution. Joan Mauté, LRMT, LMT, CPT
Holy Fire® III Reiki®: The Holy Fire® III Reiki® energy is a higher frequency than traditional Reiki, gentler in its action, yet much more powerful. One of the primary purposes of the HF III energy is to help us heal our Dormant Self, the unhealthy part of us that we bury so deeply we forget it’s even there, and our Culturally Created Self, the subconscious part of us molded by our environment and culture that doesn’t align with our true nature. Healing these unhealthy “Selves” allows our Authentic Self to be revealed, our true Self, so we can be the person we’re really meant to be. Holy Fire III Karuna Reiki® is “the Reiki of Compassion.” It works in conjunction with HF III to gently bring about deeper levels of healing. Joan Mauté, LRMT, LMT, CPT; Debbie Wright, RN.
Ho’oponopono: An ancient Hawaiian technique for relationship healing that means “to make right”, Ho’oponopono is now used in modern times to heal issues with others by healing the part of yourself that’s connected to the issue. This in turn changes the world around you in very positive ways and also can help you manifest the life you really want. This technique is a healing tool that can easily be learned and used at home for continuing self-care. Joan Mauté, LRMT, LMT, CPT
Ho’oponoReiki®: This very powerful combination of Holy Fire® III Reiki® and Ho’oponopono goes directly to the true origin of your issue and identifies, heals, and releases it from your energy field, so it’s gone. It’s especially helpful for healing issues that seem mysterious or have not responded to other types of natural or traditional medical treatments. Joan Mauté, LRMT, LMT, CPT
Hypnosis: This modality leads you into a process of deep relaxation, supportive suggestion and self-discovery. It can help you attend to, understand, and change unwanted behavioral habits, limiting thought patterns, physical discomfort, and adverse feelings. During a private hypnosis session, you will discuss the issue you would like to address, experience a deep hypnotic trance with suggestions specifically designed to attend to that issue, and receive a CD copy of your hypnotic session for your future use and support. Ellen Selover, EEM-CLP, CHt
Intuitive Development : Held on Monday evenings, each week the Intuitive Development circle includes exercises and meditation to develop our four “clairs”: clairvoyance, clairsentience, clairaudience, and claircognizance. It is a safe environment for opening up to receiving psychic messages for each other and communicating with Spirit. Everyone is welcome to join the circle and learn to improve your ability to sense the unseen world around you. No experience necessary, just a willingness to increase your intuition. Please RSVP Pamela Wolfe at firstname.lastname@example.org. Pamela Wolfe
Matrix Reimprinting is a highly effective modality that evolved from Emotional Freedom Technique (or EFT Tapping.) We carry the impact of past negative events in our minds, bodies and energy systems. We also develop false, self-limiting conclusions about life (negative learning) from these painful events. Matrix Reimprinting provides a way for you to re-visit the past event with resources that weren’t available to you at the time so that you can release the negative learning and emotional “charge” around the event. You are then guided to “imprint” the new positive learning and healing emotions in your mind, body and energy system. Cindy Haney, MS
Osmotic Healing: Osmotic Healing is an energy healing method that assists with karmic level healing for both this lifetime and past lives. It works deeply on a cellular level and also on the light body. Both the practitioner and client will feel the transformational effects of this very high vibrational healing method, as we connect with higher levels of Divine guidance during these sessions. Pamela Wolfe
Past Life and Life-Between-Lives Regression Therapy: While you may not consciously remember your past lives, your soul does. Regression therapy is a sacred practice that enables you to access your soul’s memory to uncover and review the issues that are impacting your life now. Using guided imagery to achieve a deep state of relaxation, you journey across time to understand why your life is as it is. You discover patterns of behavior that you are repeating and see the role members of your soul family played in your life both in the past and now. This understanding moves you closer to forgiveness and healing, relieving the heavy weight of centuries of accumulated karmic debt. Sessions can be focused on exploring a past life, or reviewing the pre-life agreement you made prior to this incarnation. They can be done alone or in combination with soul writing for a more profound experience. Joanne DiMaggio, MA, CHt
Past Life/Ancestral Healing: This is a very useful technique for healing the entire timeline of your current life, past lives, and ancestry, including karmic issues and ties to others, as well as the karma of your ancestors, freeing you from the accumulated energetic baggage of your entire life history. Joan Mauté LRMT, LMT, CPT
Pathwork®: Pathwork is a contemporary path of spiritual awakening and deep transformation that can help you find your way to your core divinity and to deeper meaning and purpose in life. It offers practical, powerful tools and processes for releasing the blocks that keep you from creating the life you deserve and were born to live, and for cultivating mindfulness. Pathwork emotional and spiritual process work is a mind-body-spirit approach, grounded in the premise that compassionate and objective exploration and owning of all parts of ourselves—our flaws as well as our strengths—enables us to live more vibrantly, authentically and joyfully from our core essence. Our flaws and negativities are distortions of our divine energy—and when understood and worked with non-judgmentally, they can transform and come into unity with our divine spark. We can learn to identify, safely examine and transform our negativity, so that it doesn’t wreak havoc in our lives. Practitioners who are trained to facilitate Pathwork process work are called Pathwork Helpers. The methods that Helpers use are primarily experiential, designed to help you to understand and deeply experience Pathwork concepts, and learn to apply them in your daily life. Cindy Haney, MS
Prenatal Yoga: Prenatal Yoga classes (in the Svaroopa® style) are gentle and help to make the mom-to-be more comfortable throughout her pregnancy, to smooth and speed her labor and delivery, and to create a healing resilience for her recovery. Women must have their physician’s approval and have completed their first trimester of pregnancy. Classes are in the Meditation Center adjacent to the Healing Center. Tahira Haroon
Reflexology, practiced for more than 3,000 years, is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet and hands. Ancient wisdom teaches that these reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems. Pressing these areas creates real healthful benefits. Deep relaxation and more restful sleep are two wonderful results of a reflexology session. In addition, this practice supports and balances Qi (life force) enhancing the body’s innate healing energy on many levels. Denise Furgason, EEM-CP.
Reiki: A word meaning “spiritually guided life force energy,” is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes deep levels of healing. It is administered by a gentle “laying on of hands”, on or off the body, and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. A practitioner certified in Reiki becomes harmonized with this energy and its natural expression. Reiki brings the body into harmony by relieving physical and emotional blockages. Michelle Law, Joan Mauté LRMT, Pamela Wolfe, Debbie Wright, RN; Sharon H. Taylor, M.Ed.
Soul Writing: Soul writing is a written form of meditation in which you enter an altered state of consciousness through deep relaxation. While in that meditative state, you are able to connect to your Divine Source, ask a question, and then receive a written response. This form of guided writing provides answers to life’s most profound questions and can be applied to many aspects of every day life. With soul writing you can get guidance on specific topics; use it for psychoanalysis and healing; enhance your psychic abilities; acquire inspiration in various creative art forms; explore previous lifetimes; obtain answers on esoteric topics; get insights for soul’s growth; and as a means of being in service to others. Group and individual lessons are available. Joanne DiMaggio, MA, CHt
Svaroopa® Yoga, is deceptively easy and amazingly powerful. Come discover the bliss of your own true self. Svaroopa®, which translates loosely to “your own self,” is an awareness practice involving poses that will provide openings on all levels of your being. Emphasis is on releasing core tensions to decompress your spine. Svaroopa® yoga is gentle, meditative, and super effective. If you think that you are not flexible enough to do yoga, try Svaroopa®. It will change your mind. Classes are in the Meditation Center adjacent to the Healing Center. Tahira Haroon
Therapeutic Massage: Massage is a form of healing and relaxation that has been around for centuries. In our modern world, extensive research has shown that therapeutic massage not only works well in prevention and health maintenance, but also yields great results in treating specific conditions caused by overuse, injuries, postural imbalances, etc. Therapeutic massage can provide anything from soothing relaxation to deeper therapy for specific physical problems. It can reduce your stress, anxiety, muscle tension and stiffness; increase the nourishing blood supply to your tissues; improve your energy and alertness; aid your recovery from pulled muscles or sprained ligaments; ease many of the uncomfortable stresses of child bearing, including edema, backaches, and exhaustion; relieve pain and promote healing of certain repetitive motion injuries related to on-the-job activities; compensate, at least in part, for lack of exercise and muscular contraction if you’re a person who, because of age, injury or illness, is forced to remain inactive. Once your massage is underway, several beneficial reactions are set in motion. Your massage can hasten the elimination of metabolic waste from your muscles; increase the interchange of substances between your blood and tissue cells, including the release of endorphins into the bloodstream; and stimulate the relaxation response within your nervous system. All of these responses can help to strengthen your immune system, improve your posture, increase your joint flexibility and range of motion, lower your blood pressure, satisfy the need for caring and nurturing touch, and increase your overall sense of well being. Janice Cartwright, RN, BSN, CMT
Trager® Therapy is a very gentle but deep hands-on technique using elongation and rocking motions to help your body free itself of the restrictions from old traumas and holding patterns leaving you feeling lighter, freer, looser and much more peaceful. The effects of this gently nurturing, but deeply transformational, therapy are cumulative. The Mentastics® movement exercises are used to help your body recall these feelings anytime you want to after you’ve received a session. Excellent therapy for people with Autism, Addiction, Chronic Tension, Depression, Parkinson’s disease, Post-Polio Syndrome, other neuromuscular disorders, and it’s great for relatively healthy people as well. Joan Maute, LRMT, LMT, CPT
Transformational Mandala work: The healing power of the mandala, or sacred circle, has been used for thousands of years. The process of creating and exploring your mandala can open a deep connection to your intuition and inner guidance and unblock your inner wellspring of creativity. A mandala session starts with setting an intention and a brief guided meditation. Gentle movement may be woven into the meditation. Then, creating your mandala intuitively flows from the meditation. The methods and materials used to create and explore your mandala are simple, easy and gentle. The contact that you make with your deeper self during this process can be profound. No artistic experience is necessary! There is no right or wrong way to create your mandala – only your way. When your mandala is complete, we’ll use some intuitive methods to explore and integrate its message and wisdom. Couples and group mandala sessions are available. Each person creates her/his own mandala. Mandala making in a group is a powerful and enriching process. Cindy Haney, MS
Transformational Sandtray: is a dynamic process for personal and spiritual growth. It helps you to understand and explore your inner landscape in 3-D and bring conscious healing into your life by providing a snapshot of your inner cast of characters and their relationships with one another. People frequently experience “AHA!” moments of insight into current life challenges with this method that may then lead to solutions that you weren’t yet aware of. The power of this work lies in its 3-D, tactile nature, along with its ability to show you the big picture visually. Most people find the experience to be fascinating, enjoyable and liberating. During a session, a tray filled with sand and hundreds of miniature objects are made available to you. Using as many or as few objects as you need, you intuitively and spontaneously create your “sand landscape” — a sacred, rich and vital expression of your inner being. There is no right or wrong way to create your sand landscape – only your way. You can bring any problem or issue to a session, or you can choose to see what the process has to show you about your inner world at the current time. After you’ve created your sand landscape, we’ll explore its terrain and messages. If you wish to do so, you’ll have the opportunity to take photographs. Cindy Haney, MS
Yoga Therapy: Incorporating gentle Yoga techniques into your daily life can dramatically alter your experiences allowing you to feel more peaceful, calm, connected, and able to deal with life challenges from a much more centered place. Kriya Yoga uses specific postures (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation to facilitate rejuvenation and relaxation of the mind, body, and spirit. Joan Mauté, LMT, CPT, RMT
Wellness Training: Proper nutrition and adequate levels of fitness contribute greatly to our overall health and well-being. Feel better, look better, have more energy, and be healthier no matter what your age or fitness level. We can co- create a custom wellness program that suits your needs and schedule that helps you feel and look your best ever, and also can help you recover more quickly from illness or medical treatments. Joan Mauté, LRMT, LMT, CPT
Zero Balancing (ZB) is like counseling without words, acupuncture without needles, massage without oil, and yoga without effort. It is a hands-on body/mind therapy that combines the Western view of anatomy and quantum physics with the Eastern view of energy and healing. A clear state of balance helps relieve pain and suffering, provides a foundation for health and happiness, and brings a person closer to his or her true nature. A typical session of Zero Balancing, which promotes this balanced state, is done through clothing and lasts 30 to 45 minutes. Try it; you’ll be glad you did! Tahira Haroon
